Swell

Swell is a community voice podcast app where anyone can start a conversation and build on it with audio, text, or visual contributions. The project focused on a full redesign of the product and the creation of a new visual identity.

Designing the Swell mobile app started with a close understanding of how people use their voice socially. The experience had to let any user start a conversation on any topic, then see it grow naturally as the community added voice, visual, or written contributions. The interface was designed to make that interaction smooth, human, and ongoing.

An advanced category manager was put in place to organize content and let users move easily between topics. Paired with a smart recommendation algorithm, the system surfaces conversations likely to interest each user while keeping the discussion diverse.

Special care went into the built-in recording tool. The goal: a simple, clear, and enjoyable way to record and edit voice clips right in the app. Features were designed to guide users through the whole creation process, without friction.

The mobile interface was completely rethought, with a strong focus on art direction. The visual world combines a modern feel, usability, and warmth to create a space that invites conversation and open expression. The visual guidelines were defined to reflect the values the platform stands for: listening, curiosity, and kindness.

A scalable design system was set up to keep every view of the app visually consistent. It was built to support the product's growth over the long term while making it easier for engineering teams to ship new features.

Finally, user flows were optimized for a continuous, engaging experience, from discovering topics to speaking up. Every element of the interface was designed to encourage participation, strengthen the platform's community identity, and support its growth in a fast-changing landscape.
